For the /last two or three yeass, we have been actively involved in working with the directors r ofl instruction^, They in turn with members of their department to develop program memorandum'which outlined in various specific tennis unit—by-unit objectives and goals for particular curriculum5.and we thought it was about time that we proposed for your .onsideratlon an overall framework in which to put these program memorandum-, I intend-fee; -ftrriow J*f this meeting in the next few months: .visit each of the faculties and arrange with your principals to have some time on your agenda, also perhaps combination meetings of .epartments/ia the High S. to get your reactions and—to—get any modifications^-ox—additions >vl OLillyslOuy~frrsm^the material that will be presented today. We'll get it out in written form as well so that you will have something personally to look at. After that we would the hope then to establish some kind^ of faculty consensus on both ./mission and the goals for the school system. It would then be my idea to present these materials to the Brookline . school Committee. We think this is very necessary because, as we ask them for funds in the succeeding years to sustain existing effective programs or to move money from areas that nave not been productive to new programming)., It's very impj'ditant that we have this sense of direction, and of course after you, the faculty, reach a consensus on these objectives then we vjill share them with the committee and obviously they in turn will have some modifications. Agdf Then we'll hopefully for the next four or five years.have some general idea of what we believe in and what we consider important. "So let me first, very briefly, I don't want to spend too much time on it now becaase I want to use the time\withTthe individual faculty meetings - I'd like to preset .First some mission statements for the Br.Public schools. The first of three proposed missions that we suggest for your consideration is that we^SL. maintain our position as an exemplary school system, as Carol Foley -made a reference to that. There are a number of things that all of us are doing in our respective work, in classrooms or in departments.
