EXTEi*. OMMITTEE MEETING Meeting with representatives of the West End YMHA st ths Boston YMHA April 15. 1951 Ths following were present: West End YMHA - Philip Solomon, president; Samuel Rapaport, Arthur Rosenstein, George Segal, Samuel Tsub, nd Mr. Weiss. Boston Y - Samuel 0. Smith, president; Benjsmin Gargill, chairman; Harry Glassburg, David Schaffer, Murray Cohen, Samu 1 Sparks, Jack dell, Herman Leventhal, and Joseph Bower, executive direotor. Mr. Smith opened the meeting and Introduced the subject of the need for extension activities by the Boston YMHA by reviewing past efforts and negotiations. He explained that this meeting was called only to reopen the negotiations sinos sll arrangements to be a reed upon are to be reviewed by tne Associated Jewish Philanthropies. Mr. Rosenstein stated that the .est End "Y" building Is sultabls for extsnsion activities. The basis for negotiation Is to arrive st a solution ss to now it c*.n be done. Tne ..est End "Y" would hsvs to minimise their use of the building snd turn over as much as possible of their facilities for use of activities by the Boston YMHA. Mr. Smith then enumerated the following points which he said he had discussed with the associate director of the Associated Jewish Philantnropiss: 1. Ths West Bnd YMHA should turn over their building to the AJP. 2. Ths budget, the professional Staff ar.d the programs are to be under the direction of tno Boston YMHA. 3. There is a great need for Extension Activities in the Grove Mali Area. 4. Other facilities are bel isldered - Menorah Institute, Hebrew Teachers' College, and some rooms at the Temple Mishkan Tsfila. 5. Ths arrangements are to be consumated by the Joint oommittee snd be submitted for approval to the AJP. 6. Ths fcest End "Y* would be granted token and othsr membership on ths Boston YMHA Board of Directors. 7. There wo-id not be any objection for the West End "If" to retain their own quarters. ^ Mr. Rosenstein asked, "What do you mean turn over title to the Building?" He then added that he did not think that the members would be willing to do that. "What objection is there to turning over the building?" asked Mr. Smith. Mr. Rosenstein answered that they were inter- .<*ted in having the building used to the best advantage. Mr. Sparks added that the AJP takes the responsibility for maintenance and repairs. Mr. Rosenstein stated that they would report progress to their membership since they were prepared to turn over the use of the bull ing but not the deed. However, they wished to reserve a room for their own use. Mr. Leventhal added that the use of a room for themselves would not conflict.
