Page 8 C. Inter Lounge The Lounge met once a week from 7:00 - 10:00 P.M, starting the first week in October. It continued until June 25th. Average weekly attendance was 23. The Lounge was open on Tuesday nights until February at which time it was switched to Mondays because most of the Inter clubs met at that time. The Lounge served as a place where unaffiliated members could congregate and meet others as well as a place where affiliated members could expand their social contacts. There was an intermingling of affiliated and unaffiliated members. Most of the Inters who participated in the Lounge did so in order to broaden their experiences socially in an informal atmosphere. The status of the Lounge improved last year due to the fact that the high status girls group, The Teenettes, frequented the Lounge. The majority of the boys were low status. Problems of the Lounge continue to center around the permissiveness inherent in a Lounge program. Inter boys were continuously testing the "No Smoking" rule and some Seniors attempted to be identified with this Lounge as well as their own. This function meets a specific need and should oe continued. More participation in the Lounge should be encouraged by clubs. Closer contact should be maintained by Inter Council. I feel a male leader is more suitable than a female for this job due to control problems. In either case, social work training is greatly needed by the worker who takes on this respo—sioility. D. Inter Council (Handled by dept. head) During the past year there were 2b meetings with an average weekly attendance of 11 per meeting. The Council met on Wednesdays from 3:15 - b:30 P.H. It continues to increase in status with the majority of leader-ship being given by the girls in the dept, Accc—plish—ants of the past year include: 1. Served as a basis for intercommunication among clubs. 2. Sponsored the December, February and April Vacation Week programs involving a total of bb2 Inters, with a total of 11 different activities. 3. Promoted special holiday programs including record hop for 7th graders of S. Lewenberg, Roller skating party at Chez-Vous, 2 monthly Sat. night interagency socials, tour of M. I. T. and the final outing at Norumbega. b. Co-sponsored Purim Carnival with Senior Council. 5. Cooperated with HcMse in raising funds through sale of Tombola tickets for June Carnival. Officers for the coming year are: Chairman - marilyn Singer Vice Chairman - _layne Sherman Treasurer - Carl Finer Recording Secretary - Sara Deitch Corresponding Secretary - Rona Stinem—n These officers are temporary. Permanent elections are to be held in October or November. E. Week-End Socials Due to the lack of success with the Saturday night or Sunday afternoon socials in the past 2 years, a new approach was tried this year with some success. Regular Lounge type socials were held every Sunday afternoon except once a month when a special event was planned for the 2nd. Sat. of the month. The new approach was to require each friendship club in the dept. to sponsor one Sunday social during the season. This change brought with it more member involvement as well as increased attendance. On the Sundays when there was no club-sponsored social, dept. head occasionally arranged a program with a teen-age disc jockey. The Sat. night socials, which began in Jan., met with much success. They consisted of visits to Hecht House by other Jewish Centers in the area, namely Chelsea and Quincy. These must be lined up several months in advance. The dept. head handled this pi-ogram and received cooperation from the Inter Council.
