Tho Germans are twelvo miles from Paris, Paoifioism has made its way In this oountry and now in the faoe of rampant oppression, people must readjust their thinking. This appears to bo easier for tho elders than for Youth, who must do tho fighting. Youth has been brought up to believe in tho futility of war, and is confused by the swooping ovonts of the la3t fow wooks. Most of tho young people at Heoht Houso agree that all aid—short of going to war—^must be given the Allies. However, thoy know "short of war" is no promise and thoy aro reoon- oiled to fighting, Thero arc also young pooplo—and theso arc tho most artioulato and tho bcst-informod as to sooial issues—who maintain that tho United Statos should not ontor tho war. Thoy continuously talk of mistakos mado by tho Allies and question tho kind of a poaoo that will follow the war in oase of an Alliod viotory. However, ovonts havo moved so fast that all wo oan say is that Youth is confused today about world issues, Thoy arc moro than ovor desirous of domocracy while questioning its officiency in tho world set-up of tho prosont, Hooht Houso, moanwhilo, has bcon propo-ring young people to livo in a domocracy. Board membors. Staff, vo.luntoor leaders, club members undorstand the democratic process and praotioo it. Wo continue our firm bolioi' in tho group work movement and attempt to give our voluntoer loadors an understanding of group-work techniques. Wo havo worked during tho yoar with the Boston Sottlomonts on a projoot to formulato the funotion of tho Settlement, and although tho basis of the Hooht Neighborhood House matorial submitted was the grou- work approach and was tho only material actually expressing its function in group work toms, the conclusions of tho Settlement Study, I bcliovc, embody many of tho prinoiploci of group work, without
