» ^CHT HOUSE GOLDEN AGE CLUB £ 1 (Co-sponsored by Boston Section, National Council of Jewish Women and Hecht House) STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES The Golden Age Steeling Conmitteo mot at the Hecht House Tuosday evoning, March 15, 1955 with Dr. Max Goldman, Chaiiman, presiding. Those present were: Goldon Age Worker: Mr. Mitchell Jaffe Council of Jewish Women: Mx*s. Aaron Mendelsohn Mrs. MoiTis Goldman Mrs. David Yessin Hecht House: Dr. Max Goldman Mi*. Harry Kaxpelcs ih-m), Edwaid Sidman The following matters wore takon up: I. Purim Party Evaluation Tho good and bad foaturos of the Puiiia Party wore discussed by the Steeling Committee. Positive Features: 156 Golden Agors attonded (appx-o—Lmately 110 women) —- the Golden Agers themselves made all the arrangements from tho initial planning stage to the party itself — and that the aflair was an excitinr colebration of the Club's fifth annivorsary. Negative Features: A number could not come becauso of the high admission charge ($1.75 P°i- person) since tho caterer's chargo was $2.50 per plate, the Golden Agors had to pay tho difference from theii- own treasury (approximately ^200.00) -— some of the voluntoors wero not invited becauso of the expense por luncheon and details such as publicity, etc. were not utilized to the fullost possibility. It was pointed out that the Steeling Committee members might have offorcd helpful suggestions on some of these problems had tho opportunity to do so been given to them. It was suggested that special mooting3 of tho Steering Co*—nittoo be called if a situation seems to warrant it, io. when tho plans of the Golden Agex-s i-osult in a public relations problem. (In this caso, the Goldon Ageis' decision on whore to draw the lino in inviting volunteers possibly resulted in hurt foelings. Tho Steering Committoc, if askod, would havo found a way to solvo this problem.) II. Roport of Club Activities Mr. Jaffe statod that approximately 210 Goldon Agors attend oach week, an increase of 10 per weok since his Januaiy 18th report. The avcx*ago daily attendance (not including partios) 1st Mondays - 35, Tuesdays - 90, Wednesdays-30, Thursdays - liO, and Fiddays - 15. Mr, Jaffo reported that ho had tiled to organize a choral group and tha* he had discovered that the group wanted to sing in Yddish. Two suggestions wox-o , made: 1, that Mr. Jaffe contact tho Cantor Bovich in Quincy and ask if ho could rccommond someone to load this group and 2. that a lottor bo sent to sisterhoods in tho Roxbury-Doi-chostoi—Mattapan area asking if anyone would voluntccx* to soivo as tho choral loader.
