COMBINED JEWISH PHILANTHROPIES of Greater Boston 72 FRANKLIN STREET, BOSTON, MASS 02110 - (617) 542-8080 April 27, 1979 Helen Jeffrey Steve Huberman Histadrut-Malden Allocation Over the past decade, the SP & AC has been allocating a sum of money to the Histadrut-Malden. Last year, $2,000 was sent to Louis Gray and Dr. Max Berman, representing the organization. Questions have been raised repeatedly about the appropriateness of this allocation, which originally was designed to get the Histadrut not to campaign in Maiden during the CJP Campaign. The last time this issue was studied was January 21, 1969. The Executive Board concluded "there would be adverse consequences from altering the allocation chiefly because many of the mast consistent workers in behalf of the CJP annual campaign retain strong ties to Histadrut, and the CJP annual campaign would be seriously hampered by the probable loss of these people as workers". After speaking with Ruth Fein, Dave Rosen and Arthur Gabel, there is a question whether there is still justification for this allocation. The Health and Welfare Sub-Committee will probably escrow the 1979-80 allocation and terminate, it, unless we hear otherwise from you. After the campaign closes",, I would appreciate you discussing this matter with Milton Popkin and letting me know your views on this issue. Many thanks. /pg cc: Burton Gens (^Vrowci^
