Preliminary meeting of the Board of Trustees of the United Hebrew Charities held April 29, 1895. Mr. L. PioKert, temporary chairman, and A. p. Spitz, olerk, pro tem. Following organisations represented by delegatest Hebrew Benevolent Association, Leopold Morse Home, Women1 s Sewing Society, Free Employment Bureau, Free Burial Society. Mr. Jacob H. Hecht elected temporary chairman. Voted that rules adopted by the Conference guide the organisations. In addition to two delegates from each Society voted ten additional Trustees be selected. First officers eleoted wore - President, Jacob H. Hecht let Vice President, S. Morse 2nd Vice President, L. Picrfert .Troasuror, Max frees Clerk, E. I?.' Norton Rev. Solomon Sohindler eleoted the first superintendent at a salary of $1200. and it vmG voted to ask that tho following societies advance the following sums: Hebrew Benevolent Association $350. i^ Women' s Sewing Sooiety 350. f Free Employment Bureau 550. Leopold Morse Home 150. *1200. Articles of confederation wore adopted and committees appointed. _y At the meeting of Ootober 1, 1895 it was voted to change the name «a& Federation of Jewish Charities of Boston. Mr. Sohindler rendered the first report covering period from June 1 - September 30 .showing a total expense inoluding salaries and remodelling of the rooms donatod for the purpose by the city in the Charity Building on Chardon Street, of 01067.86. It was recognised that the funds donated by the various societies were insufficient and it was voted that at least 025,000. bo raised in addition. At the meeting of November 20, 1895 it was reported that 6,000 clroulars appealing for funds had been sent out and that 5)7,000. had boen raised. One of the first rooommendations of the Superintendent was the neod of a home for destitute and deserted children. Although tho oommittee appointed to investigate the matter reported "^
