COMBINED JEWISH PHILANTHROPIES of Greater Boston, Inc. /W 72 FRANKLIN STREET. BOSTON. MASS 02110 • 542-8080 \/ / To: Bernard Olshansky SEP 20 1975 From: David H. Rosen Date: July 15, L976 \< y V I met today with Rheda Sapers. She had sent me via Arthur some material on the Volunteer Service Bureau of Miami. She is ver interested in exploring such an idea for CJP, and the Women^s Division specifically. / I had on our agenda - and as a student assignment - the'setting up of an ad hoc committee, to report to the SP and AC, on volunteer services (the need, recommendations as to structure, etc. ). JF and CS had requested a volunteer coordinator in'their budget this year (it was not funded); we have talked to agencies in the past about using more volunteers in their programs; there are agencies that do have women's groups which are meant to provide volunteers but are fairly inactive in this area. For all of these reasons, I felt it would be a valid area for exploration by SP and AC (and in cidentally for a student). Rhoda feels that this should not be/done by a committee, but rather by one or two people in Women's Division being assigned to do this. While she is not committed to the responsibility ultimately being in the Women's Division, she does'not want to trust, or take the time, to go through a committee process which may take four to six months. This matter has not been discussed by SP and AC, or with Joe, and I do not think that I could get support for their taking it up with any enthusiasm, or their telling the/Women's Division te "move over". I feel that this will be a matter; that will need to be discussed with the 1 '' I Women's Division leaderships, and specificaMy Rhoda. In this connection, I would feel that somebody "overruling" her in favor of the job being done by a committee of SP and AC would not be a desirable outcome or "victory". / I We should discuss this/on your return. The related and more serious problem is the dearth/of committee assignments to which we can students. assign :lg ^reHrA^Sfx^'^
