January 7, A meeting with the professional leadership of the Jewish Centers Association, George Samansky, Leonard Katowitz and Dr Benjamin Shevach of the Bureau of Jewish Education was held Friday, January 1st at the offices of the AJP with regard to the decision of the AJP to eliminate Jewish Music Month and Jewish Book Month as functioning programs of the JCA and the BJE The viewpoint was expressed that although it might be advisable to decentralize Jewish Book Month in the various Jewish centres and eliminate a central Jewish Book Month program by the JCA and the BJE, it was felt that in view of the large attendance at the Jewish Music Month program sponsored by both agencies, that it was inadvisable to decentralize this program on the same basis as Jewish Book Month. The opinion was expressed that the kind of program developed by both agencies for this function was of a caliber that could not very well be brought out by the various group work agencies It was recognized that both the JCA and the BJE should stimulate Jewish Music programs in the various Centres, but it was alspifelt that the traditional Jewish Music Month program provided by both agencies should be continued. It was agreed, however, that since the budgets of both agencies were reduced with regard to Jewish Music Month, there would be a slight charge levied for attendance this year to offset the deficit.
