Eulogy Delivered at the Funeral Service of Judge Jacob J. Kaplan by Rabbi Israel J. Kazis at Temple Mishkan Tefila, August 10, I960. This is a sad day in the history of our community. We have gathered to pay our final tribute to one of Boston's leading citizens and finest sons* Whatever words we might utter today would prove Inadequate to render a fair appraisal of the noble character and distinguished service of this remarkable human being. There are some men whose presence makes other men feel secure. Their very being inspires confidence in the hearts of others,, When such men pass away, we feel that pillars of strength have been taken from us. Such a man was Jacob Kaplan. The presence here today of so many friends representing so many aspects of American life — law, business, industry, religion, community and civic life, education, the arts and sciences, hospitals and a host of others —- serves as eloquent testimony to Jacob Kaplan's wide range of interests, the broad areas of his service and his amazing capacity for leaderships hard work and singular devotion. It la also a moving manifestation of the affection, admiration and respect which he had won in the hearts of his fellow- men. His life touched the lives of countless men and women and his wisdom influenced the course of affairs and events In many quarters. Jacob Kaplan was a man of slight physical frame but he possessed a personality of towering dimensions Intellectually, spiritually and morally. Humble, abhorring pretense and shunning publicity, he walked the earth with
