A HAPPY PASSOVER Israel Eyes Changing Lebanon Events Steps Warranted By Situation Taken Vol. XXXI No. 35, Thursday, April 15,1976 Price Ten Cents Rabbi And Mrs. Kazis To Chair Family Walkathon For Israel JERUSALEM, (JTA)--Foreign Minister Yigal Allon told the Knesset that events in Lebanon are being watched by Israel "with the fullest preparedness and readiness." He said, however, At a special session of the Knesset, the Foreign Minister opened his remarks with a review of the situation on the northern border in light of reports, confirmed by Israeli military sources over the weekend, that some 600-800 Syrian troops have entered Lebanon. Allon assured the Knesset that Israeli authorities have "taken all the necessary steps" warranted by the changing situation in Lebanon. He said, however, that because the situation was so delicate and volatile he could not go into any details. He said Israel deplored the continuing bloodshed which has taken many innocent lives in Lebanon. Allon referred to the "brave struggle of. the Lebanese Christian community" and the "selfish silence" of the Christian world at that the "decisive factor" was the effect of developments in Lebanon on Israel's security and Israel's actions and policies would be guided mainly by that factor. large. Paul Slater To Head 1977 CJP Campaign Even as the 1976 campaign officially ended, the an- nouncement was made of the top leadership for the 1977 Cam- paign of the Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Greater Boston and Israel Emergency Fund. Speaking at the Cam- paign Closing Event at the Belmont Country Club, CJP president Norman B. Leventhal announced the appointment of Paul D. Slater, prominent Boston realtor and philan- thropist, as 1977 general cam- paign chairman. Mr. Slater, in turn, announced his key chairmen: Maurice M. Cohen, chairman, and Arthur D. Kat- zenberg, Jr., associate chairman, Big Gifts Division; William R. Sapers, chairman, Leadership Gifts Division; Earl (Pat) Groper, chairman, Pacesetters Division, and William M. Marcus, chairman, Trades and Professions Division. Also, Joel Berkowitz, chairman, Metropolitan Division; Mrs. Paul D.
