RUSSIAN WAR RELIEF, INC. Edward C. Carter, Notional Chairman MASSACHUSETTS COMMITTEE Dr. Hugh Ccbol, Oicirmon Serge Semenenko, Treasurer Mrs. Horace B. Davis, Sec'y Dr. Serge Koussevitzky, Honorary Chairman April 28, 1942 123 Nowbury Street Boston, Massachusetts KENmore C493 Reverend Doctor Joshua Loth Liebman 342 Clark Road Brookline, Massachusetts Dear Dr. Liebman: From a variety of sources it has been suggested to us that there might be developed here an organization of the Jewish people associated with our Committee. v An organization of this type has been affected in New York and has apparently been of considerable importance* After rather careful consideration, it seems to me that the wisest method would be to invite to a meeting, probably in the second week in Kiay, e large number o'f Jewish people for the pupose of discussion. I enclose an incomplete list of people to whom invitations might be sent. I rather think that it would be better to meet in the evening rather than in the" late afternoon. V7e can get a very satisfactory meeting place :at the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, 28 Newbury Street, which would give us a very dignified atmosphere. -What I am getting at is this: Would you be willing to,so to speak, open the discussion after some preliminary remarks of mine? I am ai-dous not to put myself in the position of advising the Jewish people on a matter which is clearly beyond my field. Fairly free discussion at such a preliminary meeting should authorize us to decide whether a more definite organization should be set up presumably at a second meeting. Please let me know as promptly as convenient whether you approve of such a move on our part and whether you will help to make it successful. HC:MA Enc. 1 Judge Lowrence G. Brook* Dr. C.
