COMBINED JEWISH PHILANTHROPIES of Greater Boston, 72 Frankitn Street, Bonton, Massachusetts , Liberty 2-8080 January 12, 1966 .Mr Robert Segal Jewish Community Council 72 Franklin Street Boston, Massachusetts Dear Bob: The forthcoming National Conference oi Jewish Communal Service to be held next May in Washington, D C , will concern itself with the impact of the Great Society on Jewish Communal Services The opening session, on Saturday evening, May 14th, will be devoted to a consideration of issues and opportunities facing Jewish Communal Services--practitioners, agencies, the organized Jewish communities In preparation for this, the program committee is asking a cross- section of practitioners to contribute statements which will, we hope, represent a Symposium of the best thinking in our respective fields on the central subject of the Conference It is planned to distribute the statements to the general membership in advance of the opening session I have been asked by Maury Bernstein, Conference President and Mannie Batshaw, Program Chairman, to present a synthesis of the statements to the opening session Personally, as well as on behalf of Maury and Mannie, I am pleased to invite you to contribute a statement of some 1500 words to this Symposium. Attached is an outline of questions to which we should like you to address yourself As stated in the outline, we cannot expect every one of the contributors to elaborate on all points But we hope that you will point up the fundamental problems and direction, those that you would consider most essential in terms of your own specific field as well as your own personal appraisal The timetable is as follows- -I would appreciate hearing from you within the next few days that you will undertake the assignment I do hope
