<e- Holy Land's Problems Might Be Solved If U. N. Were Established There : To the Herald Traveler Editor: Throughout the centuries, Jerusalem has been the source or center of religious turmoil and strife. This small area, the ^cradle" of three religions, which are embraced by thc majority of the people in. the world, passed through and into the hands of many invaders and con- querers; each in turn continually adding to the enigma and dilemma of the world. . Time has proved that no empire, no 'kingdom, no nation nor religion could, i nor should, be the occupiers, controllers ! dr'keepers of Jerusalem; even this past ! decade, a period of enlightenment and i tolerance, has proved no exception, i Numerous proposals have been advanced {and found to be unworkable. f '.'The answer and solution to this cen- ;turics-old problem may and, I believe. .'.could be found in the United Nations. «This world body, conceived in faith, hope ■"and visions of peace, may bring all of ;".these to the "Holy Land;" and con- "verscly the "Holy Land" may be the •-."ray of hope" and the stimulant that will "sustain and eventually strengthen the •;Unjted Nations and the cause of world L-peace. i- '►. ;' Thc United Nations should be, and is, ';for all nations of the world; similarly, :; Jerusalem is, and likewise should be for '•the- world's nations. Jerusalem never had ;!nbr could find an equitable master or j-overseer of its destiny, not to mention •iorie that was universally accepted. The \United Nations, located here in the ^'United States, also was never universally »accepted. Conceivably, by moving to "Jerusalem, the world body could become ! the master of its own destiny as well as tthat of the "Holy Land." V, \; The United Nations, located in Jerusalem, with special controlled sanctions and jurisdictional powers, could conceivably eradicate the enigma of the ."Holy Land situation" once and for all. Furthermore, the world body would be so strategically located that besides solving the "Holy Land" dilemma, it would automatically serve as a buffer zone between Arab and Jew and possibly, East and West The close proximity of tho United Nations headquarters to many nations on three continents could make a tremendous beneficial Impact on the citizens of this area ol the world. Millions of people who hitherto found it prohibitive would now be able to visit, see, and more intimately know tho United Nations in action. Consequently, its influence could ' conceivably permeate an area where ignorance, apathy, lack of faith, or complete indifference to the world body is prevalent. Furthermore, revenue derived from taxes and from a tourist industry that will skyrocket under this set-up conceivably could sustain most of the needs of the world body, as well as Jerusalem's, without the tremendous assessments levied on the world powers such as we have today.
